THE BYL REVIEW | BLACK INDY LIVE EXCLUSIVE
Our resident celebrity teacher and increasingly legendary Indianapolis reviewer, Bill “BYL” Collins, is back with another review!
Fresh off his highly publicized Black Indy LIVE expansion deal (at least according to our imaginary front office), BYL headed to the city’s east side to check out Black-owned Love Indy Bar & Grill at 4623 E. 10th Street.
This time, BYL was invited to experience the venue’s R&B Bonfire event, complete with live music, food, and a grown folks atmosphere.
And as always, our celebrity teacher had some observations!
ON HIS FIRST IMPRESSION:
“I arrived a little early, and they were still setting up for their R&B Bonfire event. I really didn’t know what to expect, but when I saw the live band, I knew we might be onto something!”
ON THE FOOD:
BYL and his company ordered lamb chops, mashed potatoes, macaroni, Philly egg rolls, and a shrimp basket.
When somebody in the comments asked how the food was, BYL gave his assessment:
“The food was okay! I think I may just need to explore the menu a little more to find my favorite.”
Well, at least he’s keeping it real!
ON THE GROWN FOLKS ATMOSPHERE:
“For me, the real highlight of the night was the atmosphere. It was giving grown folks, good music, and a laid back vibe!”
“The live band added a special touch, and I could tell the energy was only going to get better as the night went on.”
ON HAVING TO LEAVE EARLY:
“Unfortunately, I had another stop to make, but something tells me that had I stayed a little longer, I would’ve found myself getting even more comfortable and enjoying the experience even more.”
One of the evening’s performers even jumped into the comments to let BYL know he missed several additional performances!
ON WHETHER HE’D RETURN:
“I’m glad I made the stop! Looking forward to going back and enjoying myself longer and trying other food items! Especially the catfish.”
But one commenter offered a word of caution, claiming the fish might actually be swai rather than catfish. That allegation remains unverified.
AND BYL’S FINAL GRADE?
No official letter grade was assigned, but his verdict was clear: the food still has some convincing to do, while the live entertainment, atmosphere, and grown folks energy made him want to return.
Now we want to hear from Indianapolis!
Have you been to Love Indy Bar & Grill? Is the food better than BYL’s first impression? And where should we send our celebrity teacher reviewer next?
